SAORVIEW Receivers

Set top boxes or TVs which hold the SAORVIEW logo are certified receivers and are fully compatible with the SAORVIEW service.

If a receiver does not hold the SAORVIEW logo, it still may work fully or partially with the service as long as it meets certain specifications.

SAORVIEW Receiver Specs

The minimum specs which a certified SAORVIEW receiver must meet are set out in the below documents:

The main aspects of the SAORVIEW spec are:

  • MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) over DVB-T
  • Receiver must be able to decode HD (H.264 High Profile @ Level 4)
  • Receiver must support MPEG-4 HE AAC, Enhanced AC3 and MPEG-1 Layer II audio
  • MHEG5 middleware for interactive services and EPG
  • Receiver will scale down HD to SD through SCART if TV is not HD.

Other receivers

Uncertified receivers will never be fully compatible with the SAORVIEW service. Features like over the air firmware updates, internet functionality etc. will only work on certified receivers.

Assuming standards are adhered to, the most basic specs an unofficial receiver should meet to receive video and sound from SAORVIEW are:

  • DVB-T
  • Decode HD MPEG-4 AVC (H.264 High Profile @ Level 4)
  • Decode AAC, AC3 and MP2

Things like MHEG5 could be considered optional, but you will lose out on interactive services, digital teletext and possibly EPG information if the receiver is not MHEG5 capable.
