Electronic Programme Guide ( EPG )
An EPG is a programme guide embedded in digital broadcasts and is viewable on your TV. The EPG holds 7 days of programming information for each channel listed on the EPG.
Currently the EPG is carried in a way that most receivers will be able to read and display it. In future the EPG may switch to an MHEG-5 based EPG which needs an MHEG-5 capable receiver.
Most receivers display the EPG information in a grid like above. Each individual programme in the guide has a synopsis giving an overview of the content of the programme.
If your receiver has the ability to record TV shows, the EPG provides the ability to schedule recordings with ease by selecting the programme on the EPG then pressing record on your remote control. On some receivers it is possible to record an entire series of a programme automatically.
