Digital TV switchover in Ireland
Analogue television in Ireland is switching to Digital. Switch-off of analogue is planned for 24th October 2012.
Analogue is being replaced by digital terrestrial television (DTT) which was officially launched on 26th May 2011. Free-to-air DTT in Ireland has been named SAORVIEW, and will be complimented with a free-to-air satellite service called SAORSAT to achieve 100% reception coverage.
What is SAORVIEW?
SAORVIEW is the name for free-to-air digital terrestrial television in Ireland. SAORVIEW is transmitted from land based masts and is received using a UHF
aerial connected to a compatible Set Top Box (STB) or Integrated Digital Television (iDTV). It delivers high quality audio and video, EPG and digital teletext.

What is SAORSAT?
SAORSAT is a proposed free to air satellite service which will complement SAORVIEW, catering for those who cannot receive SAORVIEW. SAORSAT will be available February / March of 2012. It will be transmitted from a satellite and is received using a satellite dish with compatible receiver.
